From the way we patiently sit with a 3-year-old to help them find their voice, to the dignity and respect we afford a 99-year-old navigating their sunset years, the staff at EVAC understands that mental health care has no age limit. We walk into homes, into communities, and into the hardest parts of people’s lives, and we bring light.
By teaching a young adult the social skills to land their first job, or guiding someone through the grueling journey of substance abuse recovery, we aren't just 'providing a service.' Our history
The agency began its journey in Virginia, a state with a rich history of mental health care innovation, being home to the first mental health hospital in North America. EVAC was founded to specifically address the need for Community-Based Services—transitioning care from sterile offices into the homes and neighborhoods of those who need it most.
In its early years, EVAC established itself as a "wraparound" provider. The company's inception was marked by a commitment to the Virginia Medicaid system, focusing on programs such as:
- Intensive In-Home Services for youth.
- Mental Health Skill Building (MHSB) for adults.
- Targeted Case Management, ensuring that residents in the Eastern Virginia region had a navigator to help them manage the complexities of the healthcare system.
Expanding the Mission: Integrating Substance Abuse Recovery & Medication Management
As the agency grew, the leadership recognized that mental health does not exist in a vacuum. To truly serve the community, we expanded our clinical scope. This "Middle Era" of the company saw the integration of substance abuse recovery services and medication management.
By offering these services together, EVAC became a "one-stop shop" for recovery. We didn't just provide a therapist; we offered a team that included caseworkers to assist with housing, trainers to teach social skills, and medical professionals to manage prescriptions—all under one roof.
The Move to Texas: New Frontiers and Current Momentum
In recent years, Eastern Virginia Advanced Care took its successful Virginia model and expanded into Texas, specifically establishing a strong presence in Houston and the surrounding areas.
This transition from Virginia to Texas was driven by a desire to bring "Advanced Care" to the rapidly growing and diverse populations of the Lone Star State. The current momentum in Texas is characterized by:
- Interstate Expertise: Bringing the high standards of Virginia’s behavioral health regulations to the Texas market.
- Scaling the 3–99 Model: Successfully implementing pediatric, adult, and geriatric programs in a new, high-demand environment.
- Modern Accessibility: Utilizing physical hubs (like the Houston office on South Loop West) to coordinate a massive network of field-based clinicians.
